With four main exhibit galleries and a massive collection of photographs and documents, the CCHA Museum provides a fascinating experience for casual visitors and in-depth researchers alike. Our renowned collection includes an impressive and beautiful display of rare 19 th century Redford glass, manufactured on the banks of the Saranac River, as well as the Martin J. Aikin Commemorative Rifle—a one-of-a-kind War of 1812 artifact and the highlight of our military history gallery.
Open year-round, the CCHA Museum also serves as an occasional venue for expert talks on local history, and is the nerve center for our busy volunteers, who painstakingly work to preserve and archive items in our collection. From 1755 to 1995, Clinton County played a pivotal role in the military history of the United States. Exhibit artifacts tell the history of this local impact including the Battle of Valcour in 1776 and the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814.
The Clinton County Suffrage exhibit recounts the battles fought for the women's right to vote at the national, state and county levels beginning in 1848. The exhibit is accompanied by a booklet that tells the County story in detail.
Many Clinton County residents were involved in one aspect or another of liquor transport during the Prohibition Era. This two room exhibit recreates the atmosphere of the era telling local stories. The exhibit was created with the help of a Corridor of Commerce Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership (CVNHP).
