LYMAN R. WOODWORTH -- 22nd INFANTRY and 3rd U. S. INFANTRYMOVED TO PITTSBURGH, PA, AFTER THE WAR - In early May 1861, Lyman R.Woodworth became one of 64 privates who enlisted in Captain OliverPeabody's Company C in Keeseville. At the time of his enlistment, he wasliving and working in Au Sable Forks.The 22nd Infantry organized in Troy and left for Washington at the endof June. While passing through Baltimore, Edward Burge from Company Iwas killed by a mob protesting the war. When they reached the capital,took up duties in the defenses of the city attached to Keye's Brigade,Division of the Potomac. Until they went into the winter encampment atUpton's Hill, they performed camp and guard duty at nearby Arlington.Between March 10th and 15th, 1862, they marched to Manassas andreturned to camp on March 16th. They were ordered to Fredericksburgabout 50 miles to the south and while there, he was discharged fordisability as a corporal. He next enlisted in the 3rd U. S. Infantryin Washington for a short time but was dishonorable discharged in March1865.In 1866, Lyman married Ellen McHattie, who was born in Scotland. Heparents, Peter McHattie and Belle Frazier, had brought their family of12 from Banffshire in 1853 to Pittsburgh to work in the mills. By 1870he had a family of his own and worked in the mills in the area for therest of his life.On May 31, 1912, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, carried this death notice-- "Lyman R. Woodworth, aged 77, died at his home, 313 Erie Street,McKeesport, at 9:30 o'clock last night. He was born in the state of NewYork and had been a resident of McKeesport for 30 years. He was a memberof the First Presbyterian Church of McKeesport. He leaves a widow, twodons, John and Charles Woodworth, and one daughter, Mrs. Bella Shears,all of McKeesport."Lyman was buried in the Richland Cemetery in Dravosburg, oppositeMcKeesport on the west shore of the Monongahela River.
