OCTAVE VITAL YELLE -- 2nd VETERANCAVALRYONE OF SIX WHO ENLISTED IN DANNEMORA - Octave Vital Yelle, who was bornin Napierville, Quebec. enlisted in the 2nd Veteran Cavalry onDecember 21, 1863, and was mustered in on the same day. They recordedhim on the Muster Roll as Velo Yelle.Velo and five other men enlisted in the regiment that November andDecember. They received town bounties of \$150 and county bounties of\$350. Only two of them were mustered out with the regiment in 1865.One, Leander Laduke, died of disease in Morganza, LA. Another, DavidLaraw, drowned off the coast of Georgia while returning home from a NewOrleans hospital. William Robans (Robbins) and John Sangamo (Santimore)mustered out with their regiment in 1865.The two remaining, Velo and Silas Germain both enlisted to serve forthree years on December 21st and were never seen by the militaryagain.Octave, who preferred to go by the name Vital, returned to Disco in theTown of Black Brook where he and his wife, Cléophie Foucrault, had atleast fifteen children.In 1910, Vital died and was buried in the Assumption Cemetery inRedford. Two of his daughters, Ida and Cordelia, returned to their homesfrom Disco after looking after their father in his last illness andattending his funeral.
